This policy covers basselaasi.com, the website of Bassel Aasi, an independent cloud and DevOps consultant. If you have a question about it, email bassel@basselaasi.com.

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people visit and which pages are useful. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) to tell visits apart, and records information such as:

the pages you view, how long you stay and the page that referred you;
your device type, browser, operating system and screen size;
your approximate location (country and city), which Google derives from your IP address. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses;
clicks on buttons such as “Book a consultation” or the email link, and which service you selected when you used the contact form. The contents of your message are never sent to Google Analytics.

Google processes this data on my behalf and may process it outside your country. The reports I see are aggregated and do not identify you. Analytics data is deleted automatically after the retention period set in Google Analytics, at most 14 months.

You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same either way. Read more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

Contact form and email

The contact form does not send anything to this website. When you press “Send message”, it opens your own email app with your message filled in, and nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself.

If you email me, I receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. I use it only to reply and to discuss the work you asked about. I don’t add you to a mailing list, and I don’t sell or share your details with anyone.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services. Like most web servers, it keeps standard access logs that record your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser’s user agent. These logs are used only to keep the site secure and working, and they are deleted automatically after a short period.

Fonts, icons and links to other sites

Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, and the training pages load icons from cdnjs (Cloudflare). To deliver these files, those services receive your IP address and browser details. Links to LinkedIn, GitHub and other sites take you to services with their own privacy policies.

What I don’t do

No advertising or advertising cookies.
No selling or renting of personal information.
No accounts, newsletters or payment details collected on this site.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you, to have it corrected or to have it deleted. To make a request, email bassel@basselaasi.com and I’ll respond within 30 days.

This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
